Coastal Airways first flies to Campbell River before Comox. We were warned that Campbell River was fogged in and passengers for that town might have to continue on to Comox because conditions might prohibit a landing.
Up in the air the pilot told us that the fog situation seemed to be improved and he would approach the airport and determine if it was safe. Down through the cloud we went. You could hear all the noises usual for a landing, flaps and engine noise, but no view of the ground!
As the wheels touched we finally saw the airport. A trifle scary. A safe landing but nobody clapped. Taxiing to a stop one of the pilots climbed out of the cockpit and informed an adoring stewardess that this was the lowest cloud cover through which they had ever made a landing in Campbell River. “You’re heroes!” she gushed.
