Those look like horses.
From the early 1950’s onward, the Lodge had horses for guests to ride, and for the children, 2 Shetland ponies which were quite a bit smaller than those animals in the picture. Then Patches joined the ponies in their corral; he was a slightly larger pony , variety name escapes me. Susan had her own Welsh pony, larger still, but she was the only one who ever rode him.
