This is the orchard at “Maplehurst”. Heatherbells moved into the house in 1896, from their house at Phipps Point. From the size of the trees(standards) I think the orchard was planted before they moved into Maplehurst. He started the orchard at Phipps Point by 1880. Betty Smith told me that there were maps, from the nursery in England, that came with the young trees around the Horn, that showed how they should be planted in relation to each other and the names etc. Her in-laws owned Maplehurst after the Heatherbells. The map was lost when the orginal house burned down.
